At World Cup Karate & Fitness, we teach a unique version of the martial arts! Putting together Tang Soo Do, Taekwondo, and fitness to establish our very own creative curriculum.

By taking the tradition of Tang Soo Do, the sparring complexity of Taekwondo, and the athleticism of the fitness industry, we have discovered a whole new way to teach the martial arts.

But what exactly are each of these elements and how do they add up to an ultimate martial art experience. Well... Keep reading to find out!

Martial Art #1

WHAT IS IT? Tang Soo Do is a Korean martial art based on the art of Karate. Before the Nine Kwans (the original five schools plus four major schools that opened after the conclusion of the Korean War) united and formed the martial art Taekwondo, Tang Soo Do was used by select Kwans (hall or building where martial arts was taught) to identify their Karate-derived martial arts style.

After Taekwondo was established, those who took Korean martial arts, conitnued to use Tang Soo Do as means to preserve the elements of the original Nine Kwans whose Karate roots were lost in the transition to Taekwondo.

The techniques of what is commonly known as Tang Soo Do combine elements of Shotokan, Subak, Taekkyon, and Kung Fu.

Tang - Tang Dynasty of China

Soo - Hand, but implies fist, punch, strike

Do - Way of life or art

WHY IS IT SO AWESOME? Tang Soo Do is a very traditional form of the martial arts. The movements and techniques help build strength, directionality, control, and memory. The open-hand forms of Tang Soo Do consist of patterns that help enhance the hippocampus, which is the part of the brain that deals with navigation. Hand & Kick techniques increase overall control of the body, as well as, help with timing and distance. The stances, holds, and overall conditioning needed to perfect this art enhances strength to the body and mind as a whole

This martial art is a great way to increase your focus, balance, and coordination. These are the main reasons of why it was chosen as part of our curriculum. So if you ever want to improve these elements in your life, give Tang Soo Do a shot. We promise you won't be disappointed.

Martial art #2

WHAT IS IT? Taekwondo is a Korean Martial Art, that is known for it's punching and kicking techniques. This art is focused on head-height kicks, jumping and spinning kicks, and fast, quick movements. Attacks or defends without using weapons. Hands and feet are the only instruments used for fighting in this martial art.

Taekwondo was not created by any one person, but by representatives from the original Nine Kwans (mentioned above) as a collaborative effort to bring back the martial arts after most of the traditional forms were forgotten about due to years of decline and repression by the Japanese colonial government

Taekwondo literally translates to "kicking," "punching," and "the art or way of."

WHY IS IT SO AWESOME? Taekwondo is great for sparring purposes. The quick techniques and drills that go with this art are ideal for competition sparring. With focus on head-shots, spin, and jumping techniques, taekwondo helps with agility and flexibility.

We made this a part of our curriculum, in order to add finesse and resilience to our lessons. As a school that competes regularly in martial art tournaments, implying the techniques of Taekwondo helps give us an edge on the competition.

WHY WAS IT ADDED? Fitness is an important aspect to any lifestyle. Whether it's walking an hour a day or an intense lifting regiment - physical movement and exercise are crucial to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Since we are all about constructing a unique lifestyle built around the martial arts, it only makes sense to add Fitness to our curriculum.

SAQ (speed, agility, and quickness) is the core of our fitness structure. Doing this helps reinforce the movements and techniques that are taught through Tang Soo Do & Taekwondo.

Cardio conditioning is another focal point that we strive to have part of our lessons. It's a necessary aspect for sparring and self defense. Knowing how to take someone out won't do you much good if you pass out from lack of stamina.

Putting all 3 of these elements together gives us an expectational sport. It helps enhance your mind, body, and spirit by elevating your lifestyle. World Cup Karate and Fitness is more than just an activity for you or your child. We are a way of life. We help those who come through our door not only improve their lives for a short time, but to consistently boost their mindset and give them tools to live their best life ALWAYS!
